Three Munros (mountains over 3,000 feet) lye to the south of Inverie with Ladhar Bheinn being the most accessible. The day starts with a 5 km walk along a good forestry track to Folach. Alternatively bikes including e-bikes can be hired from Inverie which is of real benefit especially on the return back to Inverie. Then it is a steep climb up and onto An-Diollaid at about 700 metres. From here the views are magnificent and the final 1 km to the summit is a joy, although that might be somewhat weather dependent.
There is a high lochan for any one brave enough for a wild swim. The return is via the same route and hopefully with time to visit the most remote pub in the UK The Old Forge.
It is normally achievable in about eight hours and a little less if hiring a bike. Ferries run from Mallaig at 07:30 and return at 16:30 and 18:30.
This really is a must do walk into one of Scotland’s finest regions.

This is a demanding three day walk in remote terrain. You will carry your own food, tent and your sleeping equipment. The total distance is approximately 30 miles and it divides up well into three fairly equal days. The trail at its most challenging is on single track paths and there are several river crossings which can be difficult if the weather has been particularly wet. Midges can be a nuisance and are at there worst in damp windless conditions. Both a head net and spay are essential. We normally leave mid morning or just after lunch on day one to hopefully set up camp by 7 pm at the latest. From there on 8 am starts are best to get the day under way. This is a wonderful walk with a pub at the end - The Old Forge. Ferries back to Mallaig are at 16:30 and 18:30 or if staying in Inverie where there is a campsite.
You do need to be reasonably fit to undertake this walk and practise walking with a full pack if you are not experienced. Keeping the weight down to a bear minimum is the real challenge.
